Do you have a land-based, garden, or eco-idea for a project idea but no time? We can help.
We work with non-profits and other groups to request funding for edible landscape or community garden and other eco-conscious projects and proposals.
If you need assistance with budgeting, prioritizing, planning, designing, managing this type of project, let Lekker Land Design help relieve some of the stress and get you amped-up about the possibilities!
Some of the non-profits we have worked with so far include:
Caetani Cultural Centre

After some difficult climate years in the Okanagan, the Caetani Centre, a beautiful heritage home and acreage close to downtown Vernon received funding through the Community Foundation of the North Okanagan to rethink their grounds. Lekker worked with the staff and volunteers on a “design charatte”, a collaborative process that looks at the landscape from many perspectives and offers solutions such as rainwater capture, invasive tree removal, local and drought resistant plantings and much more. After the process was complete, we started making small changes which will support the soil, pollinators, artists and the sweet resident deer family, to name a few. If you’d like to contribute to the future of this inspiration artist retreat, follow this link. Thank you!
Salvation Army Lighthouse Ministries

In 2021, the Salvation Army had been struggling with a rise in need and a decline in giving. To increase their ability to offer healthy food to locals experiencing challenges, we designed and installed a hybrid food forest on their front lawn in downtown Salmon Arm. It includes perennial berry bushes, fruit trees, herbs, vegetables and pollinator support plants. Locals wandering by over the last few years always comment on how beautiful the site is now, as it used to be just a dead lawn. Many volunteer groups contributed to this project and now visitors can come and harvest fresh, organic food when it’s ready!
HomeZero Collective Society

This new non-profit aimed to retrofit 11 home sin the Vernon area with completely emissions free energy systems. We helped them reach the larger community to sign up for this innovative and exciting pilot project which reduces their emissions by installing solar panels, heat pumps, EV chargers and hybrid hot water systems. The first stage of this project is now complete and data collection is in progress to prove the positive effects of these changes.
Shuswap Food Action Society

We helped this wonderful group with a grant application for a new community garden in Salmon Arm. The work constantly towards improving food security in the Shuswap region.
