Introduction to Permaculture

A 2 hour in-person or virtually presented class intended for those who have heard about this design system but aren’t sure they are ready to commit to a full 72 hour Permaculture Design Certificate Program or not able to find one locally offered.

Water and Permaculture

A 1.5 hour in-person or virtually presented class about how to make the best use of water on our drought-stricken Interior landscapes. Keli is an ARCSA Certified Rainwater Catchment System Designer. This class was part of the Qualified Water-Efficient Landscaper (QWEL) certification in Kelowna in 2025.

Lose the Lawn

Why do we love grass so much? The love is starting to fade as endure drought and water restrictions and metering for agricultural conservation. We share strategies for low-water use, habitat support for pollinators, shade, biodiversity and ideas to have a more climate-adaptive and resilient landscape.

First presented in 2023 for the Shuswap Climate Action Society in Salmon Arm as a webinar, it was their highest registration event ever.

Get inspired by stories of people coming together to do important and fulfilling work in the community. Keli shares some of her diverse climate-positive projects that create connections, grow food, help the environment and improve our local resilience in many different ways.

First presented in 2025 for Junior Chamber International for their provincial conference.

Planning edible garden

Local Sustainability Initiatives

This 1.5 hour class discusses what projects and organizations are doing in the Okanagan and Shuswap Regions to address climate change, food security and sustainability. Designed to get you inspired and engaged with land connections, community and taking positive action.


Composting 101

This 1.5 hour introductory class will educate you and your group to the basics of composting, common mistakes, a variety of systems and the importance of taking charge of your home organic waste as much as possible. This has been taught at elementary schools, high schools and to community groups.


Vermicomposting

Best taught in-person, this 90 minute class will educate you on the best practices of keeping worms for handling your organic waste. Vermicomposting is great for those who live alone or have a smaller space and not a huge amount of food scraps. You’ll learn what to put in, what to keep out, how to keep your worms happy and how to get a bin going at your place. Kids love this one!

Knowledge Sharing & Community Building

Vernon Permaculture

A FREE relaxed, welcoming, educational and fun evening at the Vernon Regional library on the last Wednesday of each month (7:00pm-9:00pm excluding December) where we share ideas, plans, concerns, plants and talk all things permaculture.

While Keli is currently the facilitator of this community group, we welcome guest speakers with specialized knowledge or experience with a wide variety of land-based topics. If you’d like to be a volunteer guest speaker, please reach out and let’s talk!

Lekker’s commitment

Lekker Land Design is committed to our own ongoing learning, continuing to upgrade our skills and knowledge to ensure we bringing up-to-date and useful help to your project. In 2023 we completed the “Climate Change Adaptation Fundamentals” course through Royal Roads University and in 2024 we’re enrolled in “Living Green Infrastructure” with Gaia College.
